This film poster that I have analysed is called “matrix”. This specific film is mainly aimed at a C2DE social demographic audience mainly males however females may also be interested in this genre. This film poster is satisfies the target audiences expectations as when they do look at this film they know exactly what the film may be about. This film may be aimed at a young working class target audience roughly aged between 16-24.
The colour scheme is mainly purple and blue, and various editing and lighting effects are used to signify predominance. A bright light has been shone on the main characters head to make them stand out from the background; however the main protagonist is sectioned directly in the middle of the film poster to indicate to the audience that he is the main character.
As you may have noticed each character is holding a weapon therefore the genre of the film may be obvious that it is and action film. The costume that is worn by the characters is very smart so they may be represented in the film as smart and noble people. The setting of the film poster is in an urban street or alley way? Which suggests to the audience that an action scene in the film may be located in an alley way.

Film posters

This film poster is about a film called “dead snow”. The genre of this film is horror/ thriller. The colour scheme used in the poster is very bright but there are mainly three colours; red, white and black. In many massacre films, chainsaws are the main props used in those films like this poster there is red chainsaw that a man is holding with blood on the end of it which connotes violence to the audience. The mise-en-scene of the poster is violence and torture as the head of a man is lying on the floor with his eyes wide open which shocks and scares the audience. The costume is very basic with a man standing there with a chainsaw and an axe in his left hand pocket which indicates to the audience that the man wants to kill someone. The setting of the poster is in mountains and allot of snow is visible which maybe suggests that the film is set on a snowy background. The fact the poster only shows half of a male it creates the genre of mystery for the audience as they are trying to find out who the villain is.
The typography of the main heading of the poster is written in sans serif bold and it has pictures of men then is trying to shoot someone in the letters. The title “dead snow” sort of suggests to the audience that the film is about some villains trying to kill allot of people and then after he has slaughtered them he berries them into the snow of where he murdered them? And then the people in back of the man with the chainsaw in the hand act like the helpers of the victims as they are trying to find something in the snow.
The main target audience that this poster would be aimed to attract would be a C2DE demographic social group roughly aged between 16- 24 years of age. Unemployed, semi-skilled and skilled manual workers would be interested in this thriller/horror genre as younger audiences may be scared to watch these kinds of films. This film would mainly be aimed at a male audience however females may be interested in watching this film but a fare minority. By first viewing this poster, you would be able to expect what the film is about in result of the blood and the man holding the chainsaw therefore this poster fulfils the audience’s expectations.

Media dominant/alternative representaions

Specsavers advert (dominant)
This advert is about women being represented as lower class people towards men as they live in a jungle and they rush out of the jungle in result of the smell.this connotes the idea of sexual attraction towards the man in result of him wering the glasses and the smell but when all the women come close to the man they realise that the man is not that attractive therfore this connotes that women only are interested in mens smell and looks.
In addition, they are wering jus bikinis and most of them are blonde which indicates to the audience that blonde girls are known to be the way they are represented in this advert.

Media Awards productions analysis

Chainmail
The genre of this trailer is thriller in result of the different editing effects used e.g. echo on the sound, slow motion effects and flashbacks. This connotes danger and mystery which engages the audience’s attention a lot more. The narrative is non linear because of the flash backs and the cutting of scenes. Most of the story line revolves around disequilibrium events because of the continuous deaths of victims. This trailer also sends a message to teenagers the dangers of emailing and social networking.
Essex fairytale
The genre of this trailer is gangsters, gun crime and drugs. This trailer is also in black and white which connotes simplicity and it gives the trailer an “old school” looks with the music in the background. Very informal language which makes it appeals to the younger generation. It follows Todorov’s theory of a linear narrative; equilibrium, disequilibrium and a new equilibrium. This effective because it gives the trailer flow and engages the audience’s attention.

Media homework

Analysis of SAW 1
For my analysis of a horror film I choose “saw 1”. I choose this film because of it interesting climax. It is about an old man punishing people for the bad things that they have done by using people that they love as a scapegoat. The main protagonist is the old guy (Tom), he is the controller of the game and he conveys different messages across to his clients for their sins to be paid. This film is specifically aimed for and older generation target audience roughly ages between 19 to 40 years of age because of the brutal plot of this story. The genre of this film is horror and has a lot of bloody scenes which also makes it targeted to an older audience. Mainly males would be attracted to this genre film however; females may also be interested in watching this film for required reasons.
The language that is used in the film is very informal and contains a lot of swearing when a crowd of people are trying to save their own lives. This creates a lot of tension to the audience and also creates a lot of suspense. The film also has a lot of enigma codes e.g. the old guy. We do not who he is, where he lives, or his name till the end. The film gives some hints of these factors of the old guy but does not give away the story in order to keep suspense. The film also has action codes e.g. when the girl puts the knife up into the air to stab her boyfriend in order to prevent her jaw from snapping in half.
Furthermore, the story goes in a flow of a linear pattern. The scenes are not all mixed up and an advantage of this is that the story has a nice rhythm and flow to it. The equilibrium is when the girl sits on the chair with the mask on her face. This creates a scary opening to the film and the props that are used connote death and violence due to their nature and looks. The disequilibrium in the film is when the girl finds her boyfriend lying on the ground with the key in his intestines. Then the new equilibrium is when she unlocks herself from the death mask and she waits their on the floor terrified of what might happen next. This is another enigma code in the film. Then she sees a shadow of something and she is very petrified of what that might be. This creates a lot of suspense for the audience.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq7FVtth39s

advert review

Media Advertisement Analysis

For my advertisement analysis I choose an Addidas Olympic soccer advert from 2008 in Beijing. It is important that a Chinese soccer star is in this advert because they are advertising for their own country. As you may notice, the only colour in the advert is red which is centred right in the middle of the advert. The colour that is around the male soccer star is black and white. The bright red colour draws all the attention to the main star in the middle and connotes importance of the soccer star. In addition, under the famous soccer star there are millions of random people that seem that they are trying to grab hold of the famous star and since they are in black and white it shows how important that player is and how famous he is in China. The player is wearing a Chinese uniform and this also makes this poster only advertise Chinese products. The whole point of this poster is too stress the fact to people around the whole world that in the year of 2008 Chinese will host the Olympic soccer games and the importance of the Chinese player is shown by the attractive colour scheme. Another design technique that this advert uses to attract target audiences is the large image to text ratio. There is very little text on this advert which suggests that this poster is targeted at a middle age/young target audience this also makes the advert stand alone and create messages through images. The text is written in a grey font in sans serif which makes it stand out from the white background of the clouds. It is written in Chinese and then translated in English which suggests that it is targeted to people around the whole world. The text says “2008, Impossible Is Nothing” this is how I knew that this advert was constructed by Addidas as I am a great fan of Addidas. The name of the player is “de jong” and he plays soccer for China and Olyimpiakos. This makes him very famous and that is why many advertisers often consists famous people in their adverts so it attracts a high number of target audiences. This advert is specifically targeted to a male target audience as only males are interested in football although some women also watch football but a fair minority of them do. The advert is advertising two things, Soccer Olympics and Addidas. If you look close at the player’s kit in the middle of the advert you would recognise that it is sponsored by Addidas which means that the advertisers must have paid Addidas money for them to be in the advert. Also, the football that the player is trying to header is also Addidas including the player’s shoes and maybe the player’s underwear? Addidas may have used the 2008 Olympic Games as an opportunity to advertise a lot of their products using famous celebrities like Roger Frederrer and Andy Murry to attract target audiences that have many interests in different sports. The position that the player is in is a very dramatic and acrobatic position which is also attractive to media consumers.
